PROBLEM
-
How often do users find themselves buy excessive groceries or forget to buy items?
-
What approaches do they take to avoid this kind of problem?
EMPATHIZE
We aimed to tackle the domestic food waste problem, but then we realized the scope of the problem was too large after numerous discussions with our team. Therefore we decided to narrow down the problem scope.
Consumers need a quick and easy way to manage and track their food.

7 out of 13 participants are lack of
knowledge about food storage.

"I wish I remember what ingredients I have in my fridge"
Jackie, 27 years old, during the interview
AFFINITY DIAGRAM
We found that user talked most issues around storage and organizing problem during the consumer side of the food cycle

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
Based on competitor analysis, we found there are 3 common problems:
-
Navigation is confusing and workflow is unclear.
-
Does not support history for previous food record.
-
Didn’t have a combination of food storage tips with how much food do you have.

PERSONA AND SCENARIO
We created 2 key personas to help us better understand the scenarios and situations they are facing.
• Annie is an outgoing sociable young professional who is an impulsive grocery shopper and has little knowledge on how to keep food fresh.
• Faye is a housewife with a part-time teaching job. She is a foodie so she tries out a lot of new recipes and ingredients but never use them up.

FUTURE WORK
-
What did I learn from this project?
I studied Furniture Design before and there are more care about user's feeling. I found it can also be applied to the UX design world.
This is a first project in UX design field, for this project, my teammates and I do all the process form user research to Hi-Fi.
At the beginning, we put many functions in the app like Weight Control, Online Shopping, To do List and so on. Then we got overwhelmed and felt hard to carry on. I went back to review the user interviews and affinity mapping and found that “Management Groceries” is most important, then we decided to take it as our MVP.
-
What can be done in the future?
We will add more features in the future, such as Recommendation for Cooking, One-Click Shopping
Also, I found building a community for cooking-lovers is a good idea. Then they can share their experience and cook skill as well as meeting new friends.
